Oven-Baked Chili Oil Recipe

Feel free to adjust the amount of chili flakes and garlic to suit your taste preferences. Enjoy your flavourful, homemade chili oil!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup olive oil
  • 3 tablespoons dried red chili flakes
  • 30 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium size onions, thinly sliced 
  • 1-2 sticks of Ceylon cinnamon 
  • 2-3 pieces of cloves
  • 2 bay leaves 

Instructions:

  1. Preheat Your Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 390°F (200°C).
  2. Prepare the Oil Mixture:
    • In a heatproof, oven-safe dish (like a small baking dish or an oven-safe glass jar), combine the olive oil, sliced garlic, cinnamon sticks, cloves, onions and bay leaves. 
  3. Bake the Oil:
    • Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for about 20 minutes. This will gently infuse the oil with the flavours garlic onion and the spices. 
  4. Cool, Strain and Store:
    • After baking, remove the dish from the oven, add 3 tablespoons of chili flakes, stir well and let the oil cool to room temperature. Bottle it in a airtight glass container. Store it in the fridge. The oil should keep for upto 8 weeks. 
  5. Use and Enjoy:
    • Drizzle your homemade chili oil over eggs, pizzas, pasta, salads, or use it as a dipping oil for bread. It’s also great for adding a spicy kick to stir-fries and other dishes.
